Curing Flash Floods in Davao City

Davao City, one of the largest cities in the world and considered as one of the most livable in asia has been struck by flash floods as of late and there seems to be no solution in sight. Streets, particularly in Matina and Bankal have been overflowing with water over the slightest of rainfall. Water now seeps inside houses and is making trouble of sorts for the citizens of Davao City.

Last Sunday, on the mayor's sunday show, Gikan sa Masa, Para sa Masa (From the Masses, For the Masses), city mayor Rodrigo R. Duterte talked about the recent flash floods and probable causes from which it came about. According to the city mayor, he has been bombarded by the complaints of the people regarding the flash floods. Mayor Duterte, more known for his obsession with peace and order seemed to have been converted into the defender of the environment..... and for a very good reason. This man is known for his love and passion of Davao City and knowing these facts, he will not let the city down.

According to the mayor, they are doing everything they can in trying to prevent these floods from happening. They are improving the infrastructures, namely the city drainage system and also cleaning up every garbage in sight. Easier said than done. With a land area of 2,443.61 square kilometers and over a million people, cleaning up and fixing requires a lot. Thats why the mayor suggested that the citizens of Davao City should help in the drive to achieve a flood free Davao. A simple way of helping is to minimize garbage and also to stop throwing the garbage just anywhere, even cigarette butts. These garbage clog up the drain causing flood when it rains. The bottomline is, regardless where we are and what we do, we should just chip in all out efforts and hopefully one day our dreams will be realized.
